http://asfcdugi.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/unit-22-scene-breakdown.html

Unit 22 - Assignment 2

Risk Assessment:

  • There is fighting throughout the short film and the risk that someone could actually get hurt by accident is the main risk of the production.
  • There is running in some parts of the production, the risk of someone getting bumped into or in the way is a slight risk.
  • There is a store room featured in the production, the risk of things falling down in the store room.
  • There are risks of filming in college, people could be messing around and possibly push equipment over.
  • Using a dolly can be a risk because wires from the field recorder could become a trip hazard.
  • A Low chance of Traffic being a danger
  • A risk of it raining on equipment and leading to electrocution

Unit 24 - Assignment 1

Treatment
The Idea of my short film:
The short film I’m making is based on a group of really close friends that are often looked down upon by other people their age and don’t have strong relationships with the world and the people around them. Until one day they wake up and things take a massive change and give them a giant reality check which makes them all realise that they need their parents and all the other people in the world that are helping them in every day life
The boys in this film are Mike, the sensible member of the group, Tom who is like the spokesman of the group and Rufus who is the dosser of the group. These are teenagers, besides Rufus who’s a 22 year old still in college hence why he hangs around with Mike and Tom. They are talking about how easy their lifes would be if the wolrd just belonged to them, the next morning they wake up to find some of their life essentials not in order such as the washing not being done, dishes not washed and things that they have taken for granted all along. The film is about the lads having weird ideas that they wouldn’t get away with if other people were in the world.
Theme
The theme of the short film is based on freedom and shows an easy life. But it also delivers a message which is basically don’t take things for granted. As the film goes on you see all the plans the boys make but they come across things blocking the ideas that they have and it turns out all the things they have planned cant be done because of certain reasons that are to be seen in the script.

Genre

The genre of my short film is comedy, i want it to be a funny and enjoyable thing to watch, its inspired by actors such as James France, Seth Rogan and Adam Sandler. They are the actors I would want to be in a film like this. Its meant to give the audience a sense of doubt for the boys but not so much where you feel bad for them. More like a sense where you think its funny that things go wrong for them

Unit 22/24 - Assignment 2 (MOOD BOARD)

Unit 22 Assignment 1

Multi Camera and Single Camera Productions

A Single camera production is essentially a production, with one camera used. There's quite a few reasons why you would want to make a single camera production. Reasons such as you can spend more amounts or less amounts of money on more relevant/irrelevant things, such as spending money on your audience, your cast and your locations etc. if your using one camera you dont need a whole big crew costing you a lot of money. This means you can spend more money on one amazing quality camera instead of buying numerous cameras with less quality. You'd also make a single camera production if your filming in more than one location, if you're travelling around its much more efficient for you. Also If the production is a long production making it single camera is more reasonable due to expenses. Some films will use a single camera through out it but for expensive stunts more cameras are used to capture the moment. if you use a single camera for a big stunt theres a good chance that your not going to capture the stunt. Some viewers would like a single camera production because it has more of a personal and 1st person kind of feel to it.
A Multi Camera production means the cameras are in "fixed locations. Usually found in sitcom settings and TV presenting shows such as the news. It means that the audience can get a view of multiple prospectives. If the shows were shot as single camera productions the pace of the show would be massively effected and the camera would constantly be changing positions. Using a multi camera production gives a more interesting feel to what you're watching, for example if your watching football seeing all the different angles and views make the game interesting, imagine if it was a single camera production and all they'd be able to do is a simple pan left to right of the pitch. There are however some disadvantages to multi camera productions, such as the costing. It would be much more expensive. Other problems could be things such as audio syncing.

Narrative

A Linear narrative is a consistent story that flows from beginning to end in chronological order, for example The character wakes up, goes out, comes back and goes to bed. A Linear narrative insists that there are no flashbacks or flash forwards and most likely no voice overs in the script. However, a non linear narrative is obviously the opposite, things that make a narrative non linear are things such as flashbacks that reveal exposition and a back story, for example, back to the future would be a good example of Non linear narrative. Open endings are endings that leave people with unanswered questions, usually seen in films that have a sequel to be released, such as harry potter, at the end of one of the later films its just a closing shot of the enemy shooting a beam into the sky then it cuts to a black screen then the credits roll up. This leaves the audience watching and wondering, then when the next film comes out they pick up from that point. Its a really good way of getting more money in a sense, If you give people a reason to watch the next film your obviously going to make more money. A Closed ending is the opposite, all questions are answered and the audience is left with full knowledge of whats happened in the film.

3 Act Structure

A 3 act structure is usually starts off with exposition and a backing story into the characters life, what they do in their day to day life and their relationships etc. Later in the first act it's common that some form of issue will occur for the protagonist. Then the character will usually attempt to sort the issue out which leads to the first turning point in the storyline which is usually the signal of the close of the first act. Then a dramatic question is raises a dramatic question that will be answered in the climax of the production. The question is framed in the terms of the character being called into taking action. for example, Will Larry Smith get the girl, Will Sam Jones beat the villains and so on. This is often reffered to as the inciting incident or other known as the catalyst. The second act is usually the protagonists attempts to resolve their issues but usually they wont be able to do it first time, there is always an issue, like a lack of something they need. Then they have the build up which is usually involving Co-protagonists and helpers, they then require the skills they need to complete their problems and then the second act rounds to an end. The Third act features the climax scene where the protagonist completes there problems, or if its an open ending narrative they may possibly not complete there problems.

                                      Formats
There are many types of Formats.

- Series ( Numerous episodes and is continuous ) - (Shameless, Gavin and Stacey and Benidorm)
- One off (films) - (Face off, This is the End and Sleepy Hollow)
- Genre (Comedies, Horror etc) - (For Example, Step brothers, is a comedy)
- Linear (When the story flows from beginning to end)  - (Friends with benefits is a good example of a story line that just starts, has a plot, and ends)
- Non Linear (Opposite of Linear) - (.

- Flashback (Usually in a narrative, Reveals back story)
- Realistic (Set in a real world and story)
- Non realistic (surreal and non realistic storylines)
- Open ending (leaves a cliffhanger)
- Closed ending (All questions are answered)

Technical codes

Technical codes are used for giving the story a sense of definition and gives the audience a certain feel, things like the shot size and the actually camera angles give different feels. If you have two men arguing in a mid shot and then it cuts to a zoomed up then it gives the audience vibes of tension and maybe competition between the men, the lighting will also play apart on this, if you have a very greyscale dull lighting then the chances are its not going to be a positive scene. Different camera angles and lighting give the audience different connotations of what to expect. This is why technical codes are important. they give the production a deeper meaning.

Reservoir dogs is a single camera production. it has many technical codes used throughout, a great example of this is the infamous torture scene where Mr Blonde. At the start of this scene its a kind of over the shoulder shot of the tied up hostage and mr blonde is tracked walking infront of him and around him, it shows Mr Blonde higher up to the hostage by using a low camera angle, this shows dominance to Mr Blonde and tells the Audience hes the guy to fear. The colour wash and the look of the scene is quite dull, this is to show its a not so much scary, but more of a grusom and a negative scene, A contrapuntal Non diagetic sound track is used of a cheery song. During a torture scene? why? this is to create a sense of weirdness and let the audience know how twisted Mr Blond really is. As the music starts we get a close up of the hostages face covered in blood and his face showing fear. M Blonde cuts off the ear of his hostage, but we dont see anything? this leaves room for imagination. Then the camera pans off into the corner and returns to Mr Blonde with the hostages ear in his hand and he starts speaking into the ear. then we know what has happened to the man tied up.

Unit 22 Assignment 2/3

Key things in advert

We have to create a campaign highlighting the potential and benefits of 4G. Our campaign must highlight these points towards an audience in a positive light. We need to show the way  4G has had an effect and changed society and the way people use technology. Our advertisement must show the amazing potential in ways which can attract different audiences. For example, we should create a campaign which could interest people which different interests and hobbies. Showing 4G is suitable and beneficial to everyone.

Plan (sets/locations)

Linking to our plan, we need to find a suitable location to execute our advertisement. We need to find a suitable football field/astroturf where we can recreate a rugby scene. Although we do not need a huge amount of space as our clip is basic but gets to the point. Its effective. An ideal place would look like. The timescale should be around a week. We may only need 2/3 days for filming depending on how

Shooting Schedule

Risk assessment

Storyboard 1 (our first idea)

Storyboard 2 (our latest idea)

Prop List:

Considering that only two people were being filmed for our advert, we only needed two rugby kits. Having the real kits shows authenticity.

The rugby ball is the main prop that triggers the tackle.

Cast & Crew
Director: Harry King
Production Manager: Joe Fraser
Graphics/Editing: Harry King
Camera Operator: Marc Woods, Ryan Childs, Joe Fraser, Harry King
Cast - Ryan & Joe

Skills/technology

Cameras: We will need Cameras and a good knowledge on how to film and the use of different shots and angles there is a big problem with the cameras because if we don't book the cameras they might been all booked out and we will be unable to film. this is a big problem as it will set us of our shooting schedule.
getting 4G : We will also need a phone or some device with 4G these is needed as the entire advert this could be a big problem as it is still quite hard to get 4G so this might be a problem if we are trying to show the benefits of using 4G if we can only get access to 3G
editing : we will need someone with a good knowledge of editing so that we can get the perfect timings and editing done to make the shots look as good as possible but we may face a problem if our shots aren't good enough no matter how much editing is done it still might not come out as looking good.

writing : we need someone to write some brief dialogue so when its acted out it looks much more fluent and professional but we may face some problems as it might be quite time consuming to actually think of some suitable dialogue.

Challenges of the brief

Our challenges are simple. We need to show the audience 4G is more efficient and better than 3G. We need to do this in an effective way and make sure we attract the audience and keep them intrigued. We may introduce humour or wit to make this possible.

Initial Ideas:

The advertisement will focus upon two characters at a party. One who is seen in a bad light because they own 3G, and the other who is running the show due to his super fast 4G.
The advert will open with the 3G user attempting to impress a friend with his connection. However when trying to access a certain feature, the phone wont stop buffering. We can see that his friend is starting to grow tired, until his attention is drawn towards a newcomer at the party. Loads of commotion is surrounding him, as he starts to access the potential of his 4G network. With a few button pushes he is controlling the party. Turning music on, playing films and impressing everyone around him.

The advertisement opens with our main character attempting to enter a party. The bouncer tells him that an online ticket is required to gain access.
Our protagonist then attempts to find this ticket using his 3G network. However, his Internet connection isn't fast enough, and it continuously buffers for a long period of time. Losing his patience, the bouncer repeatedly asks him if he even has a ticket. Our main character panics and tries to push past, claiming that his friends are inside. Being forced back, a fight breaks out between the two men.
Meanwhile, inside our characters friends are actually inside, partying and enjoying themselves. They begin to exclaim how lucky they are that their 4G phones loaded up the ticket.
The ad begins to cut back and forth between both sets of people, the two outside now in an extremely exaggerated brawl, and the group inside having the time of their lives.
In the last shot, our original character is just about to take a punch from the bouncer, when a freeze frame occurs. The tag line then pops up on the screen: Don't be left out, choose 4G. Faster. Stronger. Reliable.
(We filmed most of this advertisement, apart from the scenes inside the party. This proved to be very difficult to shoot, as we could not get a large amount of people in one room to act out the scene. Therefore we decided to change our idea.)

Our last idea was one that Steph suggested. She referenced another group who were comparing 4G to 3G through films and there quality when watching on different networks. What we took from this was the idea of comparing the streaming quality of sports on different networks. However we were going to do it in a different way to the other group. Joe had showed us this advertisement for Carlsberg, which greatly influenced our project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sG96exYFj7w
What we liked about the ad is that it was simple, and effective. It wasn't over saturated, throwing to much information at its audience.
Our ad opens with a clip of the rugby world cup (2012). A player powerfully and singlehandedly makes his way to the touchdown area. And at the bottom of this footage it reads: If 4G did sports. Once that clip finishes it cuts to Ryan, standing center frame in a rugby kit and on a rugby field. This scene reads: If 3G did sports. A ball is thrown to Ryan from of set, and he catches it in a panic. Looking around terrified, Ryan's eyes light up with fear as Joe runs in from of set and completely takes him out, launching Ryan of screen.
The tag line appears saying: 4G, Better. Stronger. Faster.... More Reliable.
We thought that this would cut straight to the point, instead of farting about around the matter like our first video did. It also adds humor to the mix.
